I value... |
progress over perfection.
Products are works-in-progress (WIP). No product is a perfect done deal with one big launch. Whether we’re users or designers, we want to be a part of a product's journey and see it get better with each iteration. Any fellow RealtimeBoard users out there before it became Miro? 😁 On the same note, my career is also a WIP. I actively seek out opportunities to develop my skills. I'm continuously learning and growing. And assessing. It’s important that my work aligns with the type of impact I want to make as a design leader. |
investing in people.
I care about the well-being and growth of the people I work with. Because I lead with curiosity, I'm a natural relationship builder. I genuinely enjoy getting to know colleagues, and have an easy time recognizing the unique qualities each person brings. This helps in building trust and figuring out how we can work together as a strong, connected team. |
five brains over one.
A designer working in a vacuum is never a good thing. Same goes with teams working in silos. Design is a collaborative process that requires input from a variety of perspectives, at multiple points of the product development lifecycle. A team of curious people with diverse experiences and backgrounds leads to more creative, empathetic, and inclusive designs. |
good story-telling.
Stories are powerful because they have a way of connecting us as people, and inspiring us to feel, think, and take action. In design, impactful story-telling can help us better understand a problem, present our research findings in a compelling way, and set our design solutions apart. |
hope as a superpower.
When we approach complex problems, especially those that require systemic change, it can often feel like progress is slow. A large puzzle with many moving pieces. Pieces of the puzzle we can influence, and others that we might not be able to. It can get overwhelming. In these situations, it’s important to stay hopeful. As attorney and civil rights activist Bryan Stevenson says, “Hope is your superpower. Don't let anybody or anything make you hopeless. Hope is the enemy of injustice.” Even when we’re barely moving the needle, we’re moving it. And that little movement towards the right direction can, at scale, impact many people’s lives in a positive way. |
